Sunil Chhetri is returning from retirement for reasons related to the upcoming match.
Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri is set to don the national team jersey once again, just eight months after announcing his retirement from international football. The team is scheduled to face Bangladesh in a match during the FIFA window in March as part of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Prior to this, it was confirmed through the Indian football account on X (formerly Twitter) that Chhetri would be making a return. Notably, his name is also included in the squad announced by India. Before his retirement, Chhetri had played 150 international matches over a span of 19 years, scoring 94 goals, which is the highest for India and ranks third globally for goals scored in national team jerseys. Although he stepped back from international play, he continued to compete at the club level. His return to the national team has been facilitated by the efforts of Indian coach Manolo Marquez, as reported by the country's media.
