A detective police officer was killed by gunfire from a teenager in New York.

 

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder of a detective police officer in New York City, United States. Prosecutors have reported that a gunfight occurred between the police and a group of assailants last Friday night.

According to the police, 26-year-old Joseph Azcona was a detective with five years of experience in the New York Police Department. He was shot during the incident and succumbed to his injuries several hours later at the hospital. Another police officer and a suspect were also injured by gunfire; 

however, their injuries are not considered life-threatening, as stated by Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens.

During a press conference on Saturday, Stephens indicated that the exchange of gunfire took place around 6:30 PM while the police were investigating illegal firearms.
