Kuwait has provided a grant of 3.5 million dollars for Gaza and Lebanon.

Kuwait has donated $3.5 million to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, especially to provide clean water and to improve the education system in Lebanon. In this regard, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed two grant agreements with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday.

According to an Anadolu report, the Kuwaiti fund to UNICEF will provide $1.5 million to the water sector in Gaza and $2 million to improve education in Lebanon.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti government-run fund said that the Gaza project aims to restore water and sanitation systems, provide safe drinking water and improve public health amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the enclave.

Earlier on Monday, Gaza's second largest desalination plant was shut down. In addition, the territory's largest facilities, such as energy and essential supplies, are already cut off due to Israel's ongoing border closure, which has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The fund also said that the Lebanon project will invest in infrastructure to improve the learning environment for local and refugee children by rehabilitating three public schools in accordance with the country's Ministry of Education standards.

Previously, under the ceasefire agreement, Israel was supposed to completely withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon by January 26. But after Israel refused to accept it, the deadline was extended to February 18. However, after that time passed, their military presence still remains at five border posts.

It is worth noting that Thursday's donation is the tenth humanitarian assistance agreement between the Kuwait Fund and UNICEF. Since 2017, the Fund has provided nearly $24 million for nine projects with the UN agency. The Kuwait Fund, which is independently managed using its own resources, also provides concessional loans and development assistance to developing countries to support infrastructure projects.
