Nahid has demanded the arrest of the rapists of July's martyr's daughter within 24 hours.

 

Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), stated that in the incident of gang rape involving the daughter of a martyr during the July Revolution in Dumki, Patuakhali, two suspects have been identified. One of them has already been arrested. 

He emphasized the demand for the arrest of the other suspect within the next 24 hours and insisted that not only should this incident be addressed, but also that stringent measures must be implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future. He expressed the hope that any proposed changes to the law by the government would be swiftly enacted.

He made these remarks during a press conference held in the hall room of Patuakhali Medical College Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

In Dhaka, the police shot and gang-raped the daughter of Jasim Uddin (17) of Dumki Upazila in Patuakhali, who was martyred in the anti-discrimination student movement. She inquired about the treatment of the victim, who was undergoing treatment at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital at 1:30 pm.

Dr. Tasnim Zara said, those who commit crimes will roam the society completely. And those who are tortured will have to cry and seek justice. This is not acceptable in society in any way. We have to overcome this situation. Those who are guilty must be identified and brought to justice. We have to get out of the culture of impunity that existed in the past years.

Dr. Zara further said, quoting the victim, that the victim told her - 'I do not want justice as a girl. I want justice for me as a common person of Bangladesh.' We have to remember that if justice is delayed, it is a kind of taking sides in injustice. Justice is everyone's fundamental right.

NCP Joint Convener and Assistant Attorney General Mujahidul Islam Shahin said, "We will provide whatever assistance is legally required or required from the NCP side, so that this case is tried fairly."

On the other hand, a central delegation led by Hasan Mamun came to Patuakhali on the instructions of Tarique Rahman to inquire about the victim. They inquired about the victim at the hospital at 3 pm.

During the visit of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam to Patuakhali, Abdul Hannan Masud, Dr. Tasnim Zara and some other leaders were present.

According to the victim and police sources, after the evening of the incident, the daughter of Shahid Jasim Uddin was going to Ward No. 1 of Pangasia Union in Ward No. 5 of the upazila after visiting her father's grave. On the way, the accused followed her from Naldoani. Shakib and Sifat suddenly grabbed her from behind and took her to the garden of neighboring Jalil Munshi. At one stage, they gang-raped the girl. The miscreants even threatened to take her nude photos and spread them on social media.

The victim in this incident appeared at the police station on Wednesday and filed a complaint. The police accepted the case at 3 pm. The accused Shakib Munshi was arrested.

Police said that efforts are underway to arrest the other accused. The victim is undergoing medical examination and treatment at the One Stop Crisis Center of Patuakhali Government Medical College Hospital.
