Trump denies Musk's involvement in secret plans for war with China.
Tensions between the United States and China have increased since Donald Trump took office for the second term. In the meantime, Trump's close ally, billionaire Elon Musk, has been accused of taking part in a secret plan to engage in war with China. President Trump has denied the matter when questions were raised.
A report in The New York Times claimed that Elon Musk will brief the Pentagon on a possible military conflict with China at a secret meeting. Trump clarified his position on the matter after it spread on social media.
In a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday, Trump categorically denied the allegations, saying, "China will not be mentioned or discussed at the meeting."
Earlier, a controversy erupted over a report in The New York Times. It claimed that the Pentagon was planning to brief Musk, an important ally of Trump, about the United States' strategic preparedness in the event of a conflict with China. The newspaper cited two unidentified US officials who claimed that the meeting would include 20 to 30 slides outlining possible military action.
While Trump denied the report’s claim, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a post on X that the agenda of the meeting would focus on “innovation, efficiency and smart manufacturing.”
Meanwhile, a US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged that Musk would be briefed on a range of issues at the Pentagon, including China. However, the nature and scope of the discussions remained unclear.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has played a key role in advising Trump on cutting government spending. The report also raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest related to Tesla’s business ties with China and SpaceX’s contracts with the US government, which he alleges are involved in high-level military discussions.
Relations between Washington and Beijing have been strained in recent years. Tensions have risen over trade disputes, technology access, cybersecurity concerns, and geopolitical issues surrounding Taiwan and Hong Kong.
