India's stringent measures, Pakistan prepared to respond
In the wake of the attack in Pahala in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned that no one would be spared. Pakistan has already clarified its position by stating that it has no involvement in the attack in Kashmir. But even then, the Modi government has taken five major steps against Islamabad.
The steps announced -
Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty:
This is the biggest step taken by India against Pakistan. It is known that the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Satluj rivers of Pakistan are dependent on the water of the Indus River. Water reaches vast areas of Pakistan from these rivers. Therefore, the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty is considered a big blow to Pakistan.
Attari-Wagah check post closed:
India has closed the border indefinitely. The Modi government has given time till May 1 to return those who recently entered India through this border.
Visa cancellation:
The central government has given Pakistanis 48 hours to leave the country. All ‘SAARC’ visas have already been cancelled.
Pakistani defense officials ordered to return:
Pakistani High Commission officials in New Delhi have also been asked to leave India within a week. New Delhi has also ordered defense officials from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to return to their own countries. It has also been clarified that Pakistani citizens will not be issued visas for the time being.
Reduction in the number of officials in the High Commission:
The number of members of the Indian embassy is being reduced from 55 to 30. This decision will be implemented from May 1, 2025. India is withdrawing the Defense Advisor, Naval Advisor and Air Advisor from the Indian embassy in Islamabad.
However, it is also known that preparations are underway to respond to such a move by India.
The Dawn reported that Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a meeting of the National Security Committee on Thursday (April 24) morning to "respond to Indian actions".
A Radio Pakistan report said that the meeting will discuss "India's irresponsible actions after the Pahalgam false flag operation" in detail and will be chaired by the prime minister to discuss the internal and external situation with senior civilian and military leadership.
Speaking on a program on Geo News, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also called India's announcements "inappropriate".
