Israel is engulfed in a devastating wildfire, prompting an emergency meeting led by Netanyahu.
Israel is burning in a terrible fire. Due to intense heat and strong winds, fires have spread to several cities in the country. Residents of these cities have already been evacuated to a safe distance. Traffic on the city's roads is closed due to the fire. Train traffic has also been stopped due to a fire near the line. In such a situation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended an emergency meeting at the Ad Hoc Command Center.
This information was revealed in a report by Anadolu on Wednesday (April 23) night.
According to the report, the fire first broke out near Moshav Tarum in central Israel. Due to the increase in temperature and strong winds, it spread to different places. After that, several places in the city of Beit Shemesh caught fire. The fire spread to different cities due to strong winds. At one point, the fire became more severe and got out of control. In addition, residents were evacuated from the cities of Eshtaol, Beit Meir and Mesilat Zion. Due to the severe fire, drivers on the road were forced to abandon their vehicles and leave the city.
Police have urged the public to exercise caution and stay away from the affected areas. They have closed major roads leading from the blaze to Jerusalem.
Aerial firefighting efforts have already begun. At least nine people, including seven firefighters, were injured while battling the blaze.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Authority said nine people were injured, seven firefighters and two civilians, while battling the blaze.
Jerusalem is about 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the site of the blaze, he said. The sky over Jerusalem is still covered in smoke, and air quality levels have dropped.
He added that firefighters from six districts are being called in to help put out the fire. They have also been joined by members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). About 110 firefighting teams, 11 firefighting planes and a helicopter are working to put out the blaze north of Beit Shemesh. The Israeli Air Force, rescue services and police were also at work.
A police spokesman said the fire was spreading north of Route 1. Officials were searching for hikers in areas prone to wildfires. Roads were closed near the towns of Petahia and Pedaya as the fire broke out near Route 6.
Footage posted on social media showed crowds of people walking along the highway near Rehovot, surrounded by thick smoke.
This is not the first time that wildfires have broken out in Israel, as the country has been hit by a long, dry summer.
