Protests are being organized in various districts in response to the Israeli attacks in Gaza.
Dhaka, April 7, 2025 (BSS): Protest marches were held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, as well as in various metropolitan, district, upazila and village levels of the country to protest the massive bombing and killings by the occupying Israeli army in Gaza. The marches demanded an end to the attacks and indiscriminate genocide in Gaza and the trial of Israel.
Since Monday morning, students and ordinary people have been protesting in various places in the capital, including Dhaka University area, Science Lab, Mirpur, Uttara, Baitul Mukarram, demanding an independent Palestine. The protesters were not seen engaging in any kind of violence. They peacefully raised their demands through various slogans and placards and expressed their sympathy and solidarity with the people of Gaza. The protesters demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be tried in the International Court of Justice for genocide and the maximum punishment.
Protesters said that Bangladeshi students have observed the 'No Work-No School' program in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Classes and exams were suspended in all educational institutions in Bangladesh around this program. Students skipped classes and exams and protested in front of their respective educational institutions. Their guardians joined the students.
Protest programs in several areas of Dhaka were seen, demanding an independent Palestine and an end to the Israeli attacks on Gaza, regardless of gender. During this time, they chanted slogans including 'Free Free Palestine', 'From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free, 'Save Gaza, 'Boycott Israeli Products,' 'Break Israel's Black Hand, Crush It'. Effigies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been burned in different parts of the country.
Jannat-e-Tazreen, a student who participated in the protest at the foot of the anti-terrorism Raju sculpture of Dhaka University, said, "Israel is carrying out the most barbaric genocide in the history of the world in Gaza. Newborn babies are dying in Israeli bombs before their mothers can breastfeed. Israeli barbaric soldiers are targeting men, women, children and even volunteers. As a human being, I could not remain silent against the terrorist and occupying Israeli aggression and joined the protest. I want an independent Palestinian state."
Film actor Ilyas Kanchan joined a rally in front of the National Press Club. He said, "To save the Palestinians from this catastrophe of humanity, we all have to unite and protest. Because, if we do not protest, our human values will not be revealed. I want to say, let this protest awaken and spread among all of us. Let us all unite and protest against it." If we do not protest, it will not be possible for humanity to get through this difficult time. University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rezaul Karim joined a program of Jagannath University Teachers' Association in solidarity. In his speech, he said, we are standing here with a very sad heart. We do not understand that a nation is being massacred like this day after day, year after year, but the Muslim Ummah and organizations of the world are not budging. We can boycott all Israeli products in protest, create funds for the Palestinians. We will do whatever we can from our place. We pray to the Almighty God that the Almighty Allah keeps the Palestinians in his custody.
Security arrangements in Dhaka Deputy Police Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman told BSS that no information has been received about any kind of violence in Dhaka surrounding the protests. Normal police activities are continuing in Dhaka. The police intelligence department is working to ensure that no violent situation arises around the protests.
