After Trump referred to Putin as 'crazy', the Kremlin responded with a pointed remark.
US President Donald Trump recently called Putin a “crazy” over Russia’s recent attack on Ukraine. However, the Kremlin has slammed his response as an “emotional overreaction.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow on Monday that US President Donald Trump’s reaction to the latest Russian airstrikes in Ukraine was the result of “emotional overreaction.”
Trump wrote on his Truth social media handle on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has “gone completely crazy” as Russia carried out airstrikes in Ukraine for the third consecutive night.
Trump said, “I’ve always said that he (Putin) wants all of Ukraine, not just a part of it. Maybe that’s proving to be true. But if he (Putin) does that, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”
In a separate statement, the US president also said, “I’m not happy with what I’m seeing. I don’t know what’s wrong with him (Putin). What a disaster! They are killing so many people, I don’t like it at all.”
Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia had attacked with 355 drones and 9 Kh-101 cruise missiles overnight on Saturday. Of which, they shot down 288 drones.
Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said regarding Trump’s statement, “This is undoubtedly a crucial moment and it is related to everyone’s emotional reaction. Emotions are running high — that is also normal.”
Moscow is closely monitoring all the reactions, he said, adding that President Putin is “taking the necessary decisions to ensure Russia’s security.”
At the same time, Peskov said that the start of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine is being seen as a “very important achievement,” and that the United States has played a special role in organizing these talks.
In his words, ‘We are truly grateful to the United States for helping to start this process of talks, and to President Trump personally.’
However, the Kremlin spokesman also said that no final decision has been made yet on the time and place of the second round of talks.
Meanwhile, the first round of talks between the two sides was held on May 16 at the initiative of Turkey. At that meeting, held in Istanbul after a three-year break, both sides agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners each and continue talks on a ceasefire.
At that time, Peskov expressed gratitude to Turkey for providing the opportunity for these talks. At the same time, he said that work is also underway on a draft of a possible peace treaty. Source: Anadolu
