Ceasefire request came from India: Pakistan Army

The Pakistan Army has said that it was not they, but India, who proposed the ceasefire amid the recent tensions. The country's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that New Delhi made the request through US mediation.

He said that a conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries would have dire consequences for the entire region.

At a press conference, he said that it was a conflict that could have affected the lives of 1.6 billion people. Pakistan acted responsibly and maturely.

He said that those who want war do so only to fulfill their own interests. Peace is good for both countries. Those who are behind the war have narrow political interests in mind.

Position on Kashmir

The DG ISPR said that Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute and it should be resolved based on the UN Charter and the will of the Kashmiris.

He said that even though India is trying to present it as an internal matter, it is still an international dispute under consideration at the UN.

He said that India's unilateral constitutional changes and repression will not change the reality of the situation. Thousands of houses have been destroyed, public opinion is being forcibly changed.

Regarding the Indus Water Treaty

He said that Pakistan's position on the Indus Water Treaty is clear and consistent. There is no need for the army to say anything new on this issue.

It was India that wanted a ceasefire

Regarding the recent tension, the DG ISPR said that Pakistan did not request a ceasefire, rather India wanted to reduce the conflict. We had informed our allies and mediators that we will not participate in any talks without giving a befitting reply.

News of Indian female pilot being captured is baseless

He made it clear that there is no Indian pilot in Pakistan's custody. The rumors spread on social media are false and baseless.

Denial of allegations of border violation

The DG ISPR said that Pakistan did not violate the Line of Control. We are a peace-loving nation, but we know how to respond to aggression. We have responded and are fully prepared to defend the nation in the future.

He added that some infrastructure and aircraft were damaged in the Indian attack, but the damage was limited and the aircraft will be operational again soon.

A reflection of national unity

At the end of the press conference, the DG ISPR said that Pakistan's response was a sign of professionalism. The armies of both countries are professional and we have kept the tension under control through restraint.
