Certain individuals have obstructed Ukraine's EU membership.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused “some figures” in Europe of blocking his country’s path to European Union (EU) membership “for a better seat on Red Square.”
He made the remarks at a joint press conference with Czech President Peter Pavel in Prague on Sunday (May 4). He did not name any specific figures or countries.
Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported.
“We regret that some figures in Europe are blocking this process. Not for the interests of their own countries, but to get a better seat on the Red Square stage,” Zelensky said.
“For all of us in Europe, it is important that European values truly prevail. Values, not the will of individual politicians,” Zelensky said.
Regarding the upcoming parade in the Russian capital, Zelensky said Ukraine did not rule out “provocative” activities on the Russian side on Friday. Moscow has ‘no faith’ in its commitment to a unilateral ceasefire.
Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day unilateral ceasefire from May 8 to May 11. However, Zelensky rejected the unilateral ceasefire and said Kiev would support a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the US.
“Putin really wants to show tanks at a parade. But he should think not about this, but about the real end of his war,” he said.
The Ukrainian president said Kiev could receive 1.8 million artillery shells this year as part of a Czech-led initiative to supply Ukraine with large-caliber weapons.
