Hamas praises the Norwegian Confederation for its boycott of Israel.
The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) has banned trade and investment with companies affiliated with the Jewish (Israeli) occupation. The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has praised the decision. The armed group described it as a “courageous step.”
In a statement obtained by Quds Press on Friday, Hamas called on labor unions and trade unions around the world to take this moral stand and continue to use all available means to isolate the fascist entity and expose its crimes against humanity.
Earlier, the LO trade union voted unanimously at a general conference on Friday to adopt a resolution calling for a boycott of Israel and its products.
“We want the fund to divest itself of companies operating in the occupied Palestinian territories,” Steiner Krogstad, the confederation’s deputy leader, said on Tuesday.
He said the general policy of Norway’s sovereign wealth fund is that it does not invest in companies that violate international law.
LO is Norway’s largest trade union confederation and is allied with the ruling Labor Party. The union’s influence extends beyond traditional labor rights issues.
