India's 'spy drone' shot down in Lahore, causing widespread panic due to the explosion.

 

Multiple loud explosions were heard on Walton Road in Lahore, Pakistan, on Thursday morning, police officials said. Samaa TV reported.

The report said that the explosions mainly took place in the Gopal Nagar and Nasirabad areas of Lahore, which are located near Walton Airport. Local people came out of their homes in panic and said they saw clouds of smoke in the sky.

Police sources claimed that an Indian spy drone was shot down near Walton Airport. The drone was about 5 to 6 feet in size and was being controlled from across the border. Sources said that the drone's system was jammed and it was shot down.

Sources also said that the drone was monitoring a sensitive area and had explosives in it. It had come very close to an important building.

Police and rescue teams reached the scene soon after the explosion.

According to Reuters, tensions between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan have reached a peak. Explosions were heard in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Thursday morning, a day after Indian airstrikes hit several locations, Geo TV and a Reuters witness reported.

There were no immediate details on where or how the blasts took place. But the blasts came at a time when military tensions between the two countries have been rising and fears of a possible conflict have been growing.

Earlier on Wednesday, India carried out multiple airstrikes inside Pakistan, raising international concerns. The situation is becoming more volatile as Pakistan threatens to retaliate.

Pakistan's airport sources said that several key airspaces in Lahore and Sialkot were temporarily closed for commercial flights early Thursday due to regional tensions.

A newly issued 'Notice to Airmen' (NOTM) said that the Lahore and Sialkot airspaces would remain closed until Thursday afternoon.

Several Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights were affected due to the airspace closure. A flight from Madinah to Lahore has been diverted to Karachi. Similarly, another flight from Multan to Lahore has also been diverted to Karachi.
