Israel launched an attack near the presidential palace in Syria.

Israel has attacked a target near the presidential palace in the Syrian capital Damascus. The attack was carried out on Thursday (May 1) night.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the attack on Friday (May 2) morning. He also pledged to protect members of the Druze community living in Syria. Reuters reported.

The report said that these attacks reflect Israel's deep distrust of the current rulers in Syria. The current ruling party in Syria is an Islamist group that follows Sunni ideology. They came to power in Syria last December after overthrowing Bashar al-Assad.

The incident has created an additional challenge for Syria's interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Because he is trying to establish control over the divided country.

In a joint statement with Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, Netanyahu said that Israeli forces attacked the presidential palace in Damascus, Syria, last night.

Netanyahu also said that this is a clear message to the Syrian regime. And that is, they will not accept the deployment of Syrian forces south of Damascus or any threat to the Druze community.

Deutsche Welle reported that 40 people were recently killed in clashes between different groups in the Damascus city of Sahnaya. The area is inhabited by Druze and Christian communities. At that time, Israel warned of an attack on the Druze. Later, they attacked the outskirts of Damascus, Syria on Wednesday.
