Pakistan's airspace closure: Air India incurs an additional cost of 600 million dollars.
Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian flights following the Pahalgaon attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. India also took the same decision in return. In this situation, the Indian airline Air India is facing extreme losses.
It is learned that due to the closure of Pakistan's airspace, the cost of flying on alternative routes will increase manifold for Air India. If Pakistan's airspace remains closed like this, they will have to spend an additional $600 million per year. They will also have to increase the flight time.
Meanwhile, Air India has warned that the longer the journey takes, the impact on passengers. The airline claims that if this situation continues, they will have to spend an additional $591 million per year.
For now, it is known that Pakistan's airspace will remain closed at least until May 23. Although this rule does not apply to international flights.
It is also known that Air India is also considering flying on an alternative route near China's airspace after the closure of Pakistan's airspace. But for that, it requires Chinese clearance, which the airline is also seeking government cooperation to obtain.
Tensions have been high between India and Pakistan for the past week since the Pahalgaon attack. Although India has not officially blamed Pakistan for the attack, it has taken several tough measures, including cancelling Pakistani visas, expelling diplomats and suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.
In retaliation, Pakistan has also taken several steps, including closing its land and airspace to India. It was in this context that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the Indian army "full freedom" to attack Pakistan in a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, according to reports.
