What the ruling government is stating, is it opening the 'door for discussion' regarding Imran's release?
Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has termed the much-discussed 'give and take' proposal made by his sister Aleema Khan for the release of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan as 'worthy of consideration'.
Appearing on Geo News' talk show Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Saath on Tuesday, Khawaja Asif said, 'Although Aleema's proposal is a weak attempt, it cannot be completely dismissed. The matter can be seen after investigation.'
However, he immediately criticized the 'indecent' language and aggressive campaign against state institutions by PTI workers - especially those residing abroad. He alleged that 'the consent and support of the party's top leadership is behind all these campaigns.'
Khawaja Asif also said that despite repeated calls for dialogue from the former ruling party, the party's statement and position are still unclear. Do they really want dialogue or are they just looking for a 'deal' to protect their interests?

Alima's public proposal: A direct appeal to the invisible forces
Meanwhile, in a significant press conference in Pakistan on Tuesday, Imran Khan's sister Alima Khan made a face-to-face appeal - 'You who are working as an invisible force, not in secret - come forward and tell us what wrong our brother has done to you?'
She claimed that there is 'pressure' on the judges in Imran's cases, petitions are suddenly disappearing from the list, and the trial process is being hampered by 'invisible instructions'.
Alima also said, 'Even if my brother is in jail for the rest of his life, he will not bow down to oppression. He said, I will not bow down to injustice even if I am imprisoned for the rest of my life.'
In her words, although the PTI is not in a strong position at the moment, it wants to keep the path of 'mutual understanding' open by sitting at the negotiating table.
Reaction in the political arena
A new discussion has started in the political arena of Pakistan around Alima's 'give and take' proposal. Senior PML-N leader and senator Irfan Siddiqui has raised the question, 'If give and take is not a deal, then what is it?'
He sarcastically said, 'What Alima wants to take is fine, but who knows what PTI can give now?'
Background
Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023, accused in multiple corruption and terrorism cases since his ouster in a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
His long imprisonment and the 'invisible' interference of the army and judiciary in politics have already raised various questions in the pro-democracy camp of Pakistan.
Alima Khan's recent statement and the government's response are opening a new chapter, the final outcome of which is still uncertain.
